Surabaya Zoo is the most popular zoo in
Indonesia, and even ever been the most complete collection of animal in
South East Asian. Surabaya Zoo also the oldest zoo in Indonesia. It was
founded firstly by a journalist H.F.K. Kommer who had hobby in
collecting animal. This foundation was supported by the decree (SK) from
Governor General of Netherlands on August 16, 1916 Number 40 by named
as “Soerabaiasche Planten-en Dierentuin” (Kebun Botani dan Binatang
Surabaya).
Now, Surabaya Zoo is
located at Street of Setail No. 1 Surabaya. The collections of it are
including many kinds of tropical animal, aquarium, nocturama, toxidermi
quarantine. There are more than 300 species with more than 4300 animals,
including the rare and/or wild animal in Indonesia, either Mamalia,
Aves, Reptilia, Pisces.
The strategic
location of Surabaya Zoo makes it be the interesting place for family
holiday. The visitors are not only from Surabaya, but also from others
places. When visiting Surabaya, there will be something wrong or
incomplete when does not visit Surabaya Zoo. Moreover, nowadays,the
management of Surabaya Zoo add the facilities in the zoo, such as band,
water bike, sheep/boat, playing ground, and tower in which visitors can see around Surabaya from the top.
